Winston Matthews was invited by H.R.H Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to be the youngest speaker at Misk Global Forum 2017. Winston spoke as a "Hidden Hero" in front of world business leaders and over 3500 youth from 75 countries around the world.

Winston Matthews
Silicon Valley VR Developer & Entrepreneur

Winston Matthews is a 15 year old VR game developer, entrepreneur, a nationally top ranked tennis player and golfer, and a recipient of the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth award for mathematical problem solving. Winston’s coding has been self-taught since age 6.

At age 13, Winston was the youngest software engineer and game developer for Silicon Valley startup, Virtual World Arcade (VWA). Winston has a unique combination of strong coding, mathematical, and logical thinking skills as well as innovative skills to create storylines and animation. According to VWA’s CEO, Winston “possesses a rare talent in that not only can he code but he has a strong creative ability, clearly demonstrated in the quality of the design, art, and music in the game he released” as well as the skill of “knowing how to learn”.

In 2016, at age 13, Winston Matthews became the youngest virtual reality game developer for VWA where he earned licensing royalties for his first VR game, “Worst Nightbear”. Worst Nightbear is released in several arcades throughout Silicon Valley. The same year, Winston launched his own startup company where he has raised $50,000 in angel funding from VWA’s angel investor and developed his second game, “The Wasteland.” Winston’s company will focus on pioneering experiential learning through VR in developing immersive, interactive education through visualized storytelling.

At 13, Winston was selected through competition to present at Silicon Valley’s famous TechCrunch Disrupt DC and SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin, TX in 2017. In 2017 at 14, Winston was invited (all expenses paid) to speak and give live demos at the 2017 Siggraph Conference for animation software company, Cinema 4D, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. In addition, Winston became the 1st Youth Ambassador for Washington, D.C.-based ed-tech firm, Everfi, backed by Google’s Eric Schmidt, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, U2’s Bono. 
In 2017, Winston was invited (all expenses paid) by H.R.H. Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to be the youngest speaker at the Misk Global Forum as a “Hidden Hero” in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Winston became Innovator in Residence at the prestigious Misk School and was interviewed/profiled on CNN’s Quest for Business by Richard Quest. In addition, he was invited to meet with Bill Gates to discuss VR and its role in education with the Gates Foundation. Winston was also invited to meet with Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene, Khan Academy CEO Sal Khan, Linked In Co-founder Allen Blue, Amazon CTO Werner Vogel, among others . Winston appeared as a special guest on CNN’s Quest for Business (Richard Quest) show.

At age 14, Winston was invited by the Provost and Dean of Admissions of Harvard University to visit the university and Harvard’s Innovation Lab.

  In September 2018, Winston was invited to speak at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, DC with Vint Cerf, Internet Hall of Fame and Chief Internet Evangelist at Google (https://internethalloffame.org/inductees/vint-cerf). As the founder of the Internet and Stanford Professor, Vint spoke about how the Internet changed the world. Winston spoke about how “Technology Will Disrupt Our World for Generation Z and Beyond.”

In September 2018, Winston was a finalist in the Orion Advisor Services ($700B AUA) Fuse Hackathon fintech competition in Miami. Winston developed one of the first viable use cases in the wealth management industry for a VR fintech platform.

Winston will graduate class of 2021 at Sidwell Friends High School in Washington, D.C. A nationally top ranked tennis player and golfer, Winston competes in the top 3 positions on the Sidwell Varsity golf and Varsity tennis teams where both teams won the Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships for 2017 and 2018. Winston was selected by the MAC Championship committee as one of the top 10 tennis singles players for the 2018 Mid- Atlantic Conference All Conference Teams as a freshman. He is also a 5x Tour Player of the Year in golf and runner up in Augusta National’s Drive Chip & Putt competition 2016.
